Deluge System

Deluge System

A deluge system is a specialized type of fire sprinkler system designed to provide rapid and comprehensive fire protection in high-hazard environments where a fast and total response is critical. Unlike conventional sprinkler systems where individual sprinkler heads activate independently, a deluge system features open sprinkler heads connected to a pressurized water supply through a deluge valve. When a fire is detected, typically by heat or smoke detectors, the deluge valve opens, releasing a large volume of water into the piping system.

This water floods the entire piping network and discharges through all the open sprinkler heads simultaneously, covering the protected area with a deluge of water. Deluge systems are commonly used in facilities with highly flammable materials or processes, such as chemical storage areas, aircraft hangars, and power plants. They are also employed in outdoor locations where there is a risk of rapidly spreading fires, such as oil and gas facilities.
